Hudsons’ custody case will be tried in Morris County

LINDEN, Texas—Pretrial publicity has forced a change of venue for the custody trial of a Queen City couple facing charges in the death of an adopted child. The trial will determine if William and Cynthia Hudson will lose rights to five adopted children—the deceased child’s siblings.
Cass County Court-at-Law Judge Donald Dowd granted the motion filed Friday morning by Texarkana lawyer Al Smith on behalf of William Hudson. Gwen Prothro, a regional attorney for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, told Dowd the state would not oppose a change of venue.
“The defense has argued that it would be difficult or impossible for Mr. Hudson to get a fair trial in Cass County because of all the pretrial publicity,” Dowd said.
