IN OUR VIEW/Win-Win: CHRISTUS announcement more great news for Twin Cities

For years now, Texarkana has been the center of medical care for communities from miles around. The health care industry is a major driver of the local economy.

And that's only going to become even more true.

CHRISTUS St. Michael announced Thursday it will be building a state-of-the-art $50 million facility at Gibason Lane and Arista Boulevard.

CHRISTUS expects to break ground this year and hopes to have the new acute care hospital open in 2023.

Emergency and clinical services, inpatient treatment and other facilities will be available. This will bring about 100 new jobs to the Twin Cities, something that's always welcome.

While CHRISTUS is expanding its operations, Wadley Regional Medical Center is currently building a $227 million hospital on West Park Boulevard. It's expected to open in the summer of 2024.

These health care destinations bring thousands of people to Texarkana every year. They not only take advantage of the care offered, they also help the local economy by spending money at hotels, restaurants and retailers.

CHRISTUS' announcement is great news for the Two Texarkanas. More and better health care and greater economic impact is a win-win for all involved.
