Letter to the Editor: Animals euthanized

TO THE EDITOR:

According to the Texarkana Gazette dated Tuesday, June 5, 2018, 69 animals were euthanized at the Animal Care and Adoption Center of Texarkana during the past week. Since when do we kill such large numbers of animals on a weekly basis? I watch the "Pets of the Week" article in the paper weekly and each week the euthanized numbers just keep going higher and higher.

Where is the outrage from our citizens? Where is the outrage from the Texarkana Animal League, the Texarkana Humane Society and our local rescue groups? How long has this been going on with no one even noticing or caring? Who is actively watching the animal shelter-why is the only answer to kill the animals instead of actively trying to find a better solution?

Citizens, if you are as outraged as I am about this deplorable situation, please get in touch with your city mayor's office and let them know this is not acceptable to us. Texarkana, Texas, Mayor Bob Bruggeman can be reached at 903-798-3900 and Texarkana, Ark., Mayor Ruth Penney Bell's number is 870-779-4991.

They need to know this is unacceptable to anyone's morals. Until they understand that we voted them into office-and we can vote them out-this will not change.
