Painting with Purpose

Texarkana College art students gather Saturday in the lobby of the Stilwell Arts and Humanities Building to work on a series of 15 paintings they will donate to the Randy Sams' Outreach Shelter in December. According to instructor Valerie Owen, this is the second year that TC art students have had the opportunity to participate in a community service project. Last year, Owen and fellow arts instructor Mary Jane Johnson led their students to produce 20 paintings for the local women's shelter. "It's really wonderful to get students involved in community service," Valerie commented. "It's a great way for the students to share their talents and abilities." The paintings are set to be complete by Dec. 1, when a wrap party will be held to allow the recipients of the paintings to meet the artists.
