Scouts to host an events preview tonight

The Caddo Area Council Boy Scouts are kicking off the Scouting season with a program preview from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight at William's Memorial Methodist Church, 4000 Moores Lane, Texarkana, Texas.

Attendees will be able to visit booths that provide information about all the activities planned in Boy Scouts this year.

"It will be a lot of fun and camaraderie," said Anthony Escobar, Caddo Area Council executive director. "We'll have information about all our various camps and events. It's like an exhibit hall. The booths will have materials and flyers and they'll tell you about all the fun stuff that's going to happen our variety of events including summer camp, winter camp, Mom and Me, Dad and Lad, our popcorn sale and more."

During the preview, door prizes will be given away. There will also be some special Scout-prepared treats for the public to try.

"All of our troops have a specialty when they go camping and we have several troops making their specialty snack for folks so we'll have cobbler and ice cream, just different snacks a troop would make around the campfire," Escobar said.

The event is free to the public and everyone is invited.

"Community members are welcome to come hear about and see all the good stuff we're doing," Escobar said. "There's not an 8-year-old boy alive who doesn't want to shoot a BB gun, catch a fish and make a s'more around the campfire."

Anyone interested in learning more about Scouting who can't attend the event is invited to call Escobar at the Boy Scout office at 903-793-2179.
