Local man arrested after allegedly shooting at other car in crash

An Arkansas-side man was arrested Tuesday after he was in an accident and allegedly fired shots at the other car before fleeing, a Texarkana, Texas, Police Department spokesman said.

Gregory Williams, 49, of Texarkana, Ark., was arrested Tuesday afternoon by Texas-side police on charges of deadly conduct and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, police spokesman Shawn Vaughn said.

Williams and another driver were in a minor vehicle crash about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Summerhill Road and West 13th Street, according to a press release. Williams reportedly became upset and fired several shots from a pistol at the other car before driving away.

Officers found both drivers within minutes of getting a call.

"Williams was found standing behind his Jeep Wrangler in the parking lot of 1801 New Boston Road," Vaughn said in the press release. "As officers pulled up, they saw that he was attempting to conceal a .380 pistol below a floor mat in the back hatch area of his vehicle.

Williams was arrested without incident, Vaughn said, and the other driver had already found a Texarkana Independent School District police officer in the area and told them what happened.

"Evidence found in Williams' vehicle indicated that he had fired several shots from inside the vehicle, with some striking the interior. Officers noted three bullet holes on the fender and hood of the other vehicle," Vaughn said.

Williams was taken to the Bi-State Justice Building jail, where he remains in custody. He is charged with deadly conduct and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. His total bond has been set at $75,000.
