Candidates for mayor, Ward 4 run unopposed

Candidates in two of Texarkana, Ark.'s November elections will be unopposed, while in two others, incumbents on the Board of Directors will face challengers, according to official filings with the City Clerk's Office.

Local banker and businessman Allen Brown will run unopposed for mayor. Current Mayor Ruth Penney-Bell decided in July not to seek re-election.

In Ward 4, incumbent Travis Odom will run unopposed after a would-be challenger's petition to be on the ballot did not meet qualification requirements. The petition filed by Morris "Buddy" Voan did not include the needed 50 signatures of registered voters who live in the city, according to the City Clerk's Office.

Incumbent Ward 3 Director Tim Johnson will face two challengers, LaTanya Blair and Steven Hollibush, and in Ward 5, Christopher Voan has entered the race against incumbent Director Barbara Miner.

Election Day is Nov. 6.
