U.S. 67 paving project to begin next spring

The Texas Department of Transportation has approved plans for a portion of U.S. Highway 67 in Texarkana to receive a new riding surface next year.

The work on the project, which will take place on Seventh Street, will begin in April and take about two months to complete, according to Paul Wong, area engineer for TxDOT.

"We will be resurfacing a 1.6-mile section of the highway from the Arkansas state line to Apple Street," Wong said. "We will be making repairs to some of the old pavement and then repaving the entire roadway.

"We will also be restriping the traffic lanes on this one-way roadway to reduce the number of traffic lanes from three to two between Milam Street and Texas Boulevard. This modification will enhance safety by providing shoulders and increasing the distance between the travel lanes and roadside obstructions."

East Texas Bridge, Inc. of Longview, Texas, was awarded the contract for the construction project with a bid of $761,772.
