Goal reached to help hold the funeral of 'Mr. Shoe Shine Man'

Edward Gooden, also known as "Mr. Shoe Shine Man," passed away on Nov. 18.

As of Friday afternoon, enough money has now been collected to hold a proper funeral for one of Texarkana's most well-known residents who pass away at age 90. All money raised has gone to Richardson Hill Funeral Home for his final expenses.

"Mr. Gooden conducted his shoe business at CHRISTUS Saint Michael's Health System from 1982 to 2018," said Francine Francis, director of marketing for CHRISTUS St. Micheal. "Mr. Gooden was a wonderful man and he was beloved by many. He had many friends and basically became an icon at the hospital. He will be missed greatly. He touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with he was well known and respected throughout the community."

Gooden was also an ordained minister and also conducted his shoe shine business at the Electric Cowboy until it closed.
