Two National Weather Service Skywarn Storm Spotter classes will be held locally this week.

Another class will be held in March.

The first class will be held Wednesday in New Boston, Texas. It will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the New Boston Community Center at 301 E. North Front St.

The second class will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Fouke Community Center, 203 E. Redcut, in Fouke, Ark.

A third class will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. March 8 at the Atlanta Fire Station, 606 S. Louise St., Atlanta, Texas.

All classes will be basic/advanced combined and taught by meteorologists with NWS.

The Skywarn program was developed in the 1960s to train weather spotters to provide reports of severe and hazardous weather to help meteorologists make life-saving warning decisions.

Spotters are concerned citizens, amateur radio operators, truck drivers, mariners, airplane pilots, emergency management personnel and public safety officials who volunteer their time and energy to report on hazardous weather impacting their community.
