Northbound Jarvis Parkway closed longer for chemical cleanup

Motorists urged to avoid area, find alternate routes

The northbound lane of Jarvis Parkway/Interstate 369 will remain closed longer than expected as crews clean up after an 18 wheeler flipped and spilled its contents overnight.

The corrosive substance seeped into the ground, causing crews to remove the top layers of soil, Shawn Vaughn, police spokesman, said about noon Thursday.

The crash caused the trailer to flip and the substance was dumped, said Shawn Vaughn, Texarkana, Texas Police Department spokesman.

'Luckily, there were only minor injuries," he said.

Police expect all northbound traffic will be diverted at the Westlawn exit as crews work to clean up the area.

Alternate routes should be taken to avoid the area, Vaughn said.
