TISD board eyes renovation funds

Texarkana Independent School District's Board of Trustees will meet at 11:30 a.m. today to consider the issuance of time warrants and maintenance tax notes to fund the estimated $2 million in renovations to the Texarkana College Aquatic Center.

Trustees approved a 30-year lease agreement with the college earlier this month to lease the building for $10 per year and renovate it for continued use by the TigerSharks Swim Program. The lease agreement will begin Jan. 1. The center is expected to close after the February state swim meet and reopen in August 2019.

The time warrants would be for approximately $92,000 annually, and the maintenance tax notes would be for approximately $78,000 per year.

Trustees will also consider the 2018 tax roll from the Bowie County Appraisal District and a memorandum of understanding with Community Services of Northeast Texas Inc., Head Start Programming for pre-K programs at Paul Laurence Dunbar Early Education Center.

In addition, they will consider approval of a lease agreement with TC to lease half of the physical science building for $1 per year for the OPTIONS Academic Alternative High School program.

The meeting will be held at the TISD District Administration Building, 4241 Summerhill Road, Texarkana, Texas.
