Device failure cited as cause in Tuesday night electrical fire

Machine failure was traced as the source of the Tuesday night substation fire, said Peter Main, company communications officer for AEP/SWEPCO.

"A device in the substation failed, resulting in the fire and damage to some equipment in the substation," he said. "No customers were affected."

Texarkana, Ark., police and firefighters responded Tuesday night to a fire at the electric company substation in College Hill.

Neighbors reported a loud boom at 7:30 p.m. and saw flames.

The substation is off of Division Street behind ArTex Electric.

All TAPD officers were back in service by 8:30 p.m., a police spokesperson
said.
