No More Chill on the Hill

Owner locks doors, leaves location vacant

The Dairy Queen on College Hill has been closed for about a month. Customers, caught unawares, are still coming to the building hoping to order. According to building owner Charles Santifer, he is hoping someone else with a Dairy Queen franchise license or someone else wanting to open another restaurant will operate out of the location.

The Dairy Queen on College Hill has stood closed for about a month. The circumstances behind its closing have caught customers off guard, as the word still has not gotten to everyone. Customers still show up hoping to order a meal.

"Mark Lippman was the owner of the Dairy Queen license that operated out of the College Hill location," said Charles Santifer, building owner. "Lippman has operated this Dairy Queen since 1991. One day, he just locked the door and left."

Santifer says that Lippman sold his ownership shares in several local Dairy Queens, including the locations on Lake Drive, Richmond Road, Wake Village and others, all of which are still in operation.

The franchise at College Hill was never sold, and a month ago, Lippman just locked the door and left.

"I have not heard from him or anyone connected to his business interests since," said Santifer.
