Facebook users now can stay in touch with the Texarkana, Texas, Office of Emergency Management through the popular social media platform.

Searching for @TexarkanaOEM in Facebook or Messenger will connect you to the office's new page, which "will be used to inform the citizens of Texarkana about training opportunities, as well as educate
and inform citizens about Emergency Preparedness," a post there
states.

The office's vision is to partner with the whole community "to create effective plans, acquire necessary resources and adequately train, plan for, respond to, and recover from all-hazard emergencies and disasters," the post states.

The first posts on the page were information about the OEM and a link to the website of the Shreveport, La., office of the National Weather Service, recommending it as "a trusted and reliable source."

Fire Chief Eric Schlotter is the Texas-side emergency management coordinator.
