Suspect's charges upgraded to murder in State Line Avenue hit and run

TEXARKANA, Texas - Charges against Montavious Sharp have been upgraded to murder after the pedestrian he struck on State Line Avenue died.

The victim died Wednesday in the hospital, said TTPD Spokesman Shawn Vaughn.

On Jan.9, Sharp, 22, allegedly struck a 35-year-old man with his vehicle while the victim was walking on the sidewalk, according to Texarkana, Texas police.

Sharp fled the scene but turned himself in later that day. He was originally charged with aggravated assault. Police believe Sharp struck his victim intentionally, Vaughn said.

The two men are believed to have been business partners.

Sharp remains in the Bi-State jail.
