Murl Lee Simmons, 91, of Dallas, Texas, passed away in her sleep on September 12th, 2018. She was born in DeKalb, Texas, to Andrew Harrison and Mayme Lester Richardson (d 1930). Surviving family members include two children, Don W. Simmons, Jr., and Diane Simmons (Dallas, TX), two grandchildren, Trey and Michael Simmons, and eight great-grandchildren. Additional family members include Murl's sister, Anne Farris (De Kalb, TX), Bob D. and Carol Jackson (Roanoke, VA), and sister-in-law Dale Jackson (DeKalb, TX). Murl was preceded in death by her stepmother, Estelle Richardson and two brothers James Boyd and Herman Lloyd Jackson. Murl married Donald W. Simmons, Sr., in 1946 and lived in Texas, New Mexico and Venezuela over the next 25 years. After moving back to Dallas in 1972, she worked as a receptionist at the law firm of Cowles & Thompson for 15 years, and was a docent at the Dallas Arboretum for 25+ years. Graveside services, officiated by Rev. Terry Cashion and Robby Bates, will be held at 11 a.m. at the College Hill Cemetery (Hwy. 44 East) in DeKalb on Saturday, September 22. Services will be under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be sent to College Hill Cemetery Association via the Bates Family Funeral Home.
