Hope, Arkansas, college offers knife-making course next month

HOPE, Ark. -- The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana's James Black School of Bladesmithing is offering a knife-making course taught by instructor Ricardo Vilar from Jan. 14 to Jan. 16.

The course includes basic knife-making using a knife kit.

Not only will participants be able to see how knives are made, they will receive a free ticket to see the Oak Ridge Boys at Hempstead Hall on April 29. (Anyone who registers for any JBS course before April 20 will get a free ticket.)

UAHT worked closely with Historic Washington State Park to establish the James Black School of Bladesmithing in Historic Washington. The school aims to memorialize the birth of the famous Bowie knife in Arkansas.

The James Black School of Bladesmithing builds on the preservation work of the American Bladesmith Society and the Bill Moran School of Bladesmithing to create a historically rich setting for students to learn and master the art of crafting forged blades.
