ASHDOWN, Ark. – Ashdown High School students recently earned their Microsoft Office certifications in Word in the school's Survey of Business classes.
The classes are taught by Ladarius McElroy and Shauna Tipton, according to information provided by the school.
Microsoft Office Specialist is an industry-recognized certification program where students and workers can prove their skills and proficiency with Microsoft Computer Programs. Students are able to certify in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Certiport and Arkansas Business Education have partnered to develop the technology skills students need to help prepare them for college and careers. In addition, the Ashdown School District has provided software to help prepare the students to take the project-oriented exams to obtain their certifications.
This is meant to not only prepare students academically for the next level, but also boost their workforce resume. The only software package called out within the top 20 skills across high growth/high salary occupations was Microsoft Office, ranking second in top skills, according to International Data Corporation Research Company.
Students are also able to readily apply these skills to higher quality academic work on the secondary and post-secondary levels. Certification can be an advantage in the job market and result in higher entry-level job pay.
This year's classes set an AHS record in having more than 80 certifications in Word. In addition, these four students earned the rigorous Expert Level Certification in Word: Cheyenne Arnhart, Elissa Weik, Andrew Winkler and Avry Buster.
