Hooks voters approve bond issues totaling $12.5M

HOOKS, Texas -- Voters on Tuesday approved a pair of bond issues for the Hooks Independent School District.

Proposition A received 348 votes for and 144 votes against, and Proposition B received 329 votes for and 163 against.

The principal amount of bonds to be authorized under Proposition A is $11,200,000, and for Proposition B, that number is $1,300,000. The interest on the proposed bonds for both propositions was calculated at a rate of 3%.

Based on information provided by the district in the bond election order, to repay the proposed bonds to be authorized under Proposition A,it is estimated that there will be an increase of $28.13 in the amount of annual taxes on a residence in the district appraised at $100,000. The estimated increase under the same criteria for Proposition B is $3.75.

Proposition A proposed projects include but are not limited to:

-- Constructing a multipurpose facility

-- Replacing the Junior High quad building

-- Replacing the Elementary classroom building

-- Renovating the High School wing

--Constructing the Elementary outdoor P.E. pavilion

-- Constructing a new Junior High Agriculture shop

-- Renovating Junior High restrooms

-- Additions and alterations to Branch Bank

Proposition B would finance an indoor practice facility project.
