TASD board approves purchase of maintenance and security vehicles

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- The purchase of four vehicles for maintenance and security was approved by the Texarkana Arkansas School District Board of Trustees during a special meeting on Tuesday evening.

Two vehicles were approved for maintenance, and two for security. The four vehicles combined for a cost of approximately $136,250.

The board approved the administration's recommendation of the acceptance of bids for a 2022 F250 from McLarty Ford for a total of $41,115, as well as a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 for $28,754, for maintenance.

For the district's security department, bids were accepted for a 2017 White Ford Explorer XLT from Gregg Orr Auto for $28,880 and a 2018 White Ford Explorer from Orr Volkswagen of Texarkana for $37,500.

Funding for these vehicles will come from the district's 2021-2022 fiscal year budget.

The need for these vehicles came after additional security officers had been hired. These vehicles will also aid in the transport of children and large equipment.

For maintenance, the need came for the replacement of older, defective vehicles.
