Maud ends season with 8-3 record

WHITEHOUSE, Texas -- Wortham built a 32-8 halftime cushion and hung on for a 45-36 Class 2A bi-district win Friday over the Maud Cardinals.

The Bulldogs improve to 6-5 while Maud, the 9-2A champion, closes its season at 8-3.

Cardinals' running back Tucker Sanders rushed for three touchdowns. He scored on runs of 4, 1 and 5 yards.

Maud quarterback Cason Lamb ran for a touchdown and passed for another. Lamb scored on a 1-yard sneak and also connected with Haylon Dear for a 47-yard scoring strike.

Lamb hit 16 of 24 passes for 301 yards. He was intercepted three times, and the Cardinals lost a fumble.

Maud finished with 448 yards of total offense while Wortham had 328 total yards, including 313 on the ground.

James Bowie, also representing 9-2A, lost its bi-district game to Chilton, 51-0, on Thursday night.
