Hawks tangle with Glen Rose in area playoff

FRISCO, Texas -- Pleasant Grove plays in its sixth consecutive area championship playoff football game today.

The Hawks (6-5) take on Glen Rose (10-1) in a Class 4A, Division II area playoff game at The Star at 2:30 p.m. today.

"We are extremely fired up to be playing in the area championship again," Pleasant Grove head coach Josh Gibson said. "This is our sixth in a row, which is a huge accomplishment. Playing at The Star, which is the best high school venue probably in the world, is exciting for the kids. We feel blessed."

Each game the Hawks have averaged 31.7 points scored and have given up an average of 24.8 points. Pleasant Grove averages 237.5 rushing yards per contest along with 87.8 passing yards. The Hawks average 325.3 total yards each game.

Jaylen Boardley is Pleasant Grove's leading rusher for the season with 930 yards on 128 carries and 16 touchdowns. He averages 6.6 yards per carry.

Jojo Bailey is the Hawks' second leading rusher with 524 yards on 90 carries (a 5.8 average) and three TDs.

The Tigers are on a 10-game win streak and average 39.8 points per contest. Glen Rose's defense has only given up an average of 15.5 points per outing.

"Glen Rose has a really good football team," Gibson said. "They are 10-1 on the year, which means they do a lot of things right. They've had a ton of success and are well coached."

The Tigers average 132.1 yards of passing each game and 304.5 yards of rushing for a total average yardage of 436.6. Junior standout Hudson White has been responsible for a bulk of that yardage.

White is a dual-threat quarterback who has thrown for 1,444 yards and rushed for 1,718 yards. White has hit on 77 of 149 passes with 10 TDs and eight interceptions. He has scored 30 rushing touchdowns.

Junior running back Braulio Silva is second on the Glen Rose team with 777 rushing yards on 118 attempts and seven touchdowns.

Pleasant Grove rolled past Canton in the bi-district round, 49-21, while the Tigers shut out Nevada Community, 15-0.

The winner plays either Ford or Pittsburg in the Class 4A, Division II regional semifinals next week.
