AHS charges past Prescott

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Arkansas High built a 25-3 halftime lead and rolled past Prescott, 46-11. In a varsity girls basketball game on Monday at Razorback Gym.

"They played hard and everything went well on the defensive side of the ball," Lady Backs head coach Dulincia Keener said. "We had a strong performance from our bench."

Turnover plagued both teams with the Lady Curley Wolves had 26 and Arkansas High had 22. The Lady Backs connected on 19 of 46 shots for 45 percent, while Prescott hit on 4 of 26 shots for 15 percent from the field. Arkansas High outrebounded the Lady Curley Wolves, 36-12.

Taylor Reed finished with a game-high 11 points for the Lady Backs, teammate Seaira Watson had eight points and Makayla Dodd scored nine. Watson pulled down eight boards and Reed had seven.

The clock ran continuously in the second half. Arkansas High put together a 10-0 run before Prescott's Emily Banda hit a jumper for the Curley Wolves' only score of the third quarter. Banda and Jade Sharp each led Prescott with four points apiece.

Dodd scored five points in the fourth quarter for the Lady Backs, who were on cruise control. Banda, Sharp and Mary Munoz each made a basket for the Curley Wolves.

Arkansas High shot 32 percent from the field in the first half on 9-of-28 shooting. Prescott, unable to connect from the field, was 0 for 10.

Watson led the Lady Backs in the first half with eight points, and teammate Taylor Reed added seven. Arkansas High got off to a hot start by forcing many Lady Wolves turnovers in the first quarter and took an 11-1 advantage into the start of the second.

Reed led the Lady Backs with five points in the second quarter as Arkansas High took a 25-3 lead into the locker room at halftime. All of Prescott's points in the first half came off free throws.
