TEXARKANA, Texas -- Several Christmas parades and other holiday events are planned for counties in Southwest Arkansas over the next week.

In Sevier County, several organizations are planning a tree lighting and community event in a local park, the night before the De Queen Christmas Parade.

The Sevier County Chamber of Commerce along with the Sevier County Economic Development Group and the City of De Queen will present "Christmas Under the Stars" Friday at Herman Dierks Memorial Park.

The event will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 613 Haes Ave.

Mayor Jeff Brown will say a few words at the event.

"We are excited about it," Brown said. "I'm going to say a few words and the choir is going to perform. We thought we would bring some small town charm to it."

The De Queen High School Choir will perform Christmas Carols.

First Christian Church will be passing out cocoa and hot chocolate and accepting donations of non-perishable food items for families in need.

HealthCare Express will also show the movie, "The Grinch that Stole Christmas" from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Sevier County Chamber of Commerce will present "Christmas on the Tri-Lakes" a Christmas parade and night market on Saturday.

The event will include an outdoor market, Christmas parade and courthouse lighting along with local crafters and small businesses and food vendors

The event will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the courthouse lighting at 5:30 p.m., and the parade starting at 6 p.m.

In Little River County, the Chamber of Commerce is planning two parades and a Breakfast with Santa.

The Foreman, Arkansas, Christmas Parade will be 6 p.m. Saturday

The Ashdown, Arkansas, Christmas Parade will be 6 p.m. Monday.

The Breakfast with Santa will be at 8 a.m. Dec. 11 at the Ashdown Church of Christ. Directly after the breakfast, there will be a children's parade.

"The kids decorate their bikes and things like that. We give gift cards to the top winners. It's always a really fun event for the children." said Jana Smith, president of the Little River County Chamber of Commerce.

A Christmas Tour of Homes will be Dec.12 in Little River County. Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce office.

Smith said the 202 Christmas Parade was a well-attended event even though many people watched from their vehicles.

"It was a social-distancing parade for sure," she said. "But it was great because it got people out after months of quarantining. We hope we have a big event this year also."

In Howard County, the Nashville, Arkansas Christmas Parade will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
