Quorum Court votes tonight on sales tax election date

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Miller County Quorum Court meets at 6 p.m. tonight, to vote on holding a special sales tax election to help finance expanding the county's jail.

Court members, who will meet in the conference room of the Office of Emergency Management, at 409 Hazel St., will consider setting Feb. 8 as the election date.

The justices of the peace will also consider accepting $500,000 in grant funds from the Arkansas State Courthouse Historic Preservation Grant fund.

Miller County Judge Cathy Harrison said the grant money will reimburse the county for funds the county spent to historically refurbish the courthouse's 1939 roof.

The restoration effort took place in two phases, with the second phase being completed in August of this year, she said.
