HALLSVILLE, Texas -- Texas High and Hallsville played five long sets in their District 15-5A volleyball showdown.
Not only did it go to the maxium sets, five, it also went into extra points in the extra period.
The host Lady Bobcats came out on top, 25-16, 23-25, 25-14, 20-25, 17-15.
The loss was the first setback for front-runner Texas High (24-11, 8-1). Hallsville (20-9, 7-2) remained in second place with three games to play.
The Lady Tigers leaders were: Jaycee Kennedy (13 kills, 8 blocks), Valeria Perez (19 digs, 18 points), Bella Cherry (18 assists, 16 kills, 22 points), and Kailyn Williams (15 assists, 13 points). Mally Lumpkin (22 digs, 10 points) and Ashanti Northcross (18 digs, 16 points) also played well.
Texas High lost the junior varsity and freshmen contests. The hosts won the JV match, 25-20, 25-20, and the ninth-grade match, 25-10, 25-4.
Lions wins in 3 sets
NEW BOSTON, Texas -- New Boston defeated Queen City in straight sets in District 14-3A volleyball action.
The Lady Lions won, 25-17, 25-1, 25-15.
The Lady Bulldogs were paced by Chyna Stiger with 6 digs and 5 kills, Jamecia Cook had 4 blocks, and Lauren Carrell 3 kills.
New Boston won the JV1 match, 25-17, 25-18. Keelie Mainer and Ruby McCasland had 4 service points each for QC.
The Bulldogs won the JV2 match, 25-22, 15-25, 25-17. Ruby McCasland led the winners with 10 points and 5 kills, and Macey Granderson had 7 points.
Queen City will be at home Friday against DeKalb at 4:30 p.m., and New Boston will entertain Atlanta.
