State Police will investigate officer-involved shooting at Zapata's

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Arkansas State Police Investigators will prepare an investigative file on Wednesday's officer-involved shooting at Zapata's Restaurant that will be submitted to the Miller County prosecuting attorney.

The prosecutor will review the statements and evidence contained in the file and determine whether the use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer was consist with Arkansas laws, said Bill Sadler, spokesman for ASP.

A man in the restaurant was shot about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by an off-duty Texarkana, Arkansas Police Officer.

The man was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. His injury is not considered to be life-threatening, according to officials.

The off-duty TAPD officer was inside Zapata's when he allegedly "encountered a subject committing a felony crime," according to TAPD. The incident resulted in the officer shooting the suspect.

The names of the suspect and officer have not been released.

Zapata's Restaurant is located at 217 Walnut St., downtown Texarkana. Numerous people were inside the restaurant when the shooting occurred.
