Texarkana to appoint Place 3 board member to replace Anne Farris

TEXARKANA, Texas -- The Texarkana College Board of Trustees will look to appoint a new Place 3 Trustee during a regular meeting this morning.

This position was previously held by Anne Farris, who submitted her resignation from the board at a meeting last month after serving since 2013. An advocate for smaller school districts, Farris was instrumental in providing ample opportunities for underserved populations of students to receive scholarship money.

"Mrs. Farris is an icon of education excellence in Northeast Texas," TC Board President Kaye Ellison said during last month's meeting. "Her service to students who live in rural school districts is unmatched and is a vital part of TC's mission. She serves as a role model for aspiring students to take every opportunity to earn a college credential and leave a legacy of progress."

The meeting will open with a recognition of Farris, before considering the approval of her replacement. After this, the new member will be sworn in.

A closed session will follow this measure.

Regular business after the closed session will include an item regarding a Request for Proposal for an addition to the Industrial Training Center and Welding Shop, as well as the 2021-2022 Tax Roll.

The board will also look to approve the Bowie Central Appraisal District Official Ballot Resolution for 2022-2023.

Reports will be made by College President Dr. Jason Smith, Vice President of Finance Kim Jones, Vice President of Instruction Dr. Donna McDaniel and Dean of Students Robert Jones before adjourning.

(The meeting will convene at 11:30 a.m. in the Truman Arnold Student Center at the Great Room, 2500 North Robison Road.)
