Suspect in New Year's Eve homicide in Atlanta arrested in Texarkana

ATLANTA, Texas -- A suspect in a New Year's Eve homicide has been arrested in Texarkana.

Da'Kyree Lamont Hawkins was arrested Wednesday in connection with the death of Vadarious Lakeith Cooper, according to information from the Cass County District Attorney's Office.

Cooper was killed Dec. 31, 2021, in Atlanta.

Multiple agencies quickly responded and assisted with the investigation and scene control. The Atlanta Police Department, Cass County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Linden Police Department, Texas Rangers and Cass County District Attorney's Office Chief Investigator Cody Sartor all responded to the incident, according to the district attorney's office.

The U.S. Marshal's Joint East Texas Task Force and the Texarkana Texas Police Department located and apprehended Hawkins.

Hawkins was arrested at the Town North Apartments, according to TTPD.

"These relationships enable us to investigate our cases fully ensuring that justice is ultimately served. We are grateful to all of these agencies' service not only to Cass County, but to the surrounding areas they serve," said a statement from the district attorney's office.
