The fast-spreading omicron variant of COVID-19 has local schools adjusting schedules and taking precautions.
The Texarkana Arkansas School District has closed on-campus instruction until next week. Students will return to class Tuesday. Until then, alternate instruction methods will be used. This could mean digital learning or course hand outs.
Texarkana Texas Independent School District will be closing classes and offices from today through Friday, citing the likelihood of staffing problems because of COVID-19. Classes will resume Tuesday following the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.
Genoa Central Schools will close through the rest of week as well for cleaning because of "increased number of isolation and quarantine with our cafeteria staff," the district said in a Facebook release.
Pewitt Consolidated Independent School District campuses will also be closed the remainder of the week.
The virus is spreading fast. Even here.
It's unlikely we'll see business shutdowns or shelter in place orders like we did in 2020. Governors in both Arkansas and Texas seem dead set against them.
But that doesn't mean throw caution to the wind. You know what precautions to take to help protect yourself, your family and others.
The only question is will you?
