TEXARKANA, Texas -- The Pleasant Grove Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the 2020-2021 financial audit report during a regular meeting Thursday night.
Wilf and Henderson P.C., the district's outside audit firm, conducted the annual financial review.
The report was presented by the firm's Kelly Birdwell.
For the year ending in 2021, the district's total revenue from the general fund was at $22 million, and state funding was nearly $12 million. The district's total expenditures were just under $22 million.
Birdwell said there were no major findings and commended Director of Finance Derick Sibley and the district's financial staff on a sound fiscal year.
"Derick and his staff do an excellent job preparing for the audit, but they also do a really good job throughout the year of making sure you get good financial information and making sure you guys stay on track with all the financial regulations," Birdwell said.
The Board also approved a professional development waiver request for the 2022-2023 school year. The waiver allows 2,100 professional development minutes to count toward the state-required minimum of 75,600 minutes of operation.
The 2,100 minutes will be used over five days that will provide professional development opportunities for staff during the school year after the first day of instruction and before the last day of classes.
During the district updates to the board, Superintendent Chad Pirtle said student enrollment is up to 2,330, compared to being just under 2,320 before Christmas break.
Pirtle commended the district's campus principals for keeping school running through the latest COVID surge that has caused many districts to close or transition to a virtual format temporarily.
