Alta Laverne Carter

Alta Laverne Carter, age 83 of Doddridge, Arkansas, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018. Mrs. Carter was born August 5, 1934 in Doddridge to Alver and Clara Bell Jones. She was a member of Caddo Prairie Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts, ceramics, and making dolls. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her parents, Alver and Clara Bell Jones; two sisters, Adine Bickerstaff and Frances Land; and step-daughter, Virginia Davis. She is survived by husband, Cleborn Leo Carter of Doddridge, AR; two sons, Michael Carter and wife, Laura and Timmy Carter and wife, Melissa all of Doddridge; son-in-law, Jack Davis of Texarkana, AR; two brothers, Charles Jones of Rodessa, LA and Donice Jones and wife, Judy of Doddridge, AR; two sisters, Yvonne Henderson and Ronona Hale both of Vivian, LA; four granddaughters, Jackie Davis Price of Texarkana, AR; Michelle Easley and husband, Brandon of Imboden, AR; Brandy Brown and husband, Justin of Doddridge, AR; and Misty Brasher of Surprise, AZ; one grandson, Tony Carter and fiancé, Devin Lovejoy of Doddridge; ten great grandchildren; Joshua Hill, Kimberly Hill, and Lexie Easley of Imboden, AR; Jackson Carter, Isabella Carter, and Greyson Carter of Doddridge, AR; Savannah Brasher of Surprise, AZ; Jeanna Gerald and John Citty of Texarkana, AR; and Tommy Brown of Doddridge, AR. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Doddridge, AR with Bro. Bill Stroud officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Doddridge under the direction of Smith Funeral Homes of Stamps, AR. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Honoring Mrs. Carter as pallbearers will be Tobie Dunlap, Jeff Roach, Justin Hawkins, Bryan Sims, Carl Eaton, Jarrett Endsley, and Adam Mills.
