Jerry Bert Davis was born on April 5, 1935 at Texarkana Hospital to Minor Wallace Davis Sr and Mildred Elizabeth Jameson Davis. He attended Grim Elementary, F. Ben Pierce Junior High School and graduated from Texas Senior High School in 1953. Jerry attended the University of Houston for 2 years, transferring to Louisiana State University where he graduated January 28, 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree. While there he participated in ROTC and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant at graduation. He became a 1st Lieutenant and served a total of 2 years active service. Later he was promoted to Captain in the inactive reserves. In March 1960, Jerry returned to Texarkana and began farming with his father. On June 12, 1978, his daughter Kimberly Anne Davis was born. She married Shawn Allen Murphy and they have two sons, Mason Owen Murphy and Hayden Alexander Murphy. On February 15, 1980 his son Jerry Justin Davis was born. He married Leslie Nicole Davis of Austin, Texas and they have one daughter, Juliet River Davis. He is also survived by his brother Minor Wallace Davis JR and sister Mary Elizabeth Davis. In 1993, Jerry was awarded a plaque as the best soy bean farmer in Texas by the governor. Jerry was an active elder in the Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer and also an active elder at the First Presbyterian Church, Arkansas. He continued to farm until December 2000, when he retired. He resided at 6410 Prestige Lane from 1979 to 2015. He spent his last years in Austin, Texas with his family. On Monday April 9, 2018 he passed away at the age of 83 years old surrounded by his children. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.
