Marjorie Bess Parker Carper Griffin, 93, a resident of Texarkana, Texas, for most of her life, but for the past 5 years, a resident of the Bedford and Southlake, Texas, area passed away peacefully on April 13, 2018, surrounded by her family. Marjorie was born December 15, 1924, in DeKalb, Texas, to Ivey M. Parker and Annie Holcombe Parker. A family celebration and tribute to Marjorie will be held at a later date. Marjorie, also called "Mimi", loved her God and her family with all her heart. The happiness and well-being of others was always on her mind even in her last days. Marjorie retired from GTE and then worked at Wadley Hospital as a switchboard operator. Her caring heart led Marjorie to be a volunteer for Hospice of Texarkana, Inc. for many years. She was also a member of the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary and Williams Memorial Methodist Church, where she lovingly served as secretary-treasurer of the Upper Room Sunday School Class for as long as she was able. Mimi was an exceptional cook and was known for her homemade bread which was called "Mimi's bread" by the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also very special were "Mimi's" brownies, chocolate pies and lemon pound cakes! All prepared and given to family, friends and neighbors with a beautiful smile and a heart full of love. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Fred "Buster" Carper; sisters, Reba Phillips and Sue Williamson; brother, George Humphries; nephew, Gary Waller; and very dear special cousin and friend, Hubert E. Simpson. She is survived by daughters, Phyllis Carper Simmons and husband Ken, Shreveport, Louisiana; Adella Griffin Pedigo and husband Bill, Bedford, Texas; grandchildren, Todd Simmons and wife Rona, Mansfield, Texas; Anna Simmons Stephens and husband Tim, Ruston, Louisiana; Alyssa Bess Simmons, Shreveport, Louisiana; Judson Pedigo and wife Mandy, Bedford, Texas; Parker Pedigo and wife Caitlin, Bedford, Texas; and Griffin Pedigo, Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Alana Simmons Pooser and husband Jake, Nolan Simmons, Joel Thomas Stephens, Will Pedigo, Jed Stephens, Dru Simmons Thatcher, Macie Kay Pedigo and Preslee Pedigo. She is also survived by brother Clarence "Sonny" Humphries; and other special extended family, Sharon Phillips Bolt, Marla Sue Waller Treas, Larry Waller, Carolyn Kennedy Moreland and husband Bonnie, and Susan Simpson Hull and husband Kent. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of The Carlyle at Stonebridge Park, Southlake, Texas, for the care, love and friendship given to Marjorie the past four years. Heartfelt appreciation is also given to Hospice provider, Vitas Healthcare of Ft. Worth, Texas, for the excellent care given to Marjorie and the comfort given to the family. A special thank-you is given to Alice Hall, Care and Support Ministry, White Chapel Methodist Church, Southlake, Texas, who became a dear, caring friend to Marjorie, through a chance meeting with Adella Pedigo. Our precious Mother-Mimi was our "Yellow Rose of Texas" and our "Sunshine". We will share "Mimi" stories for years to come with lots of love, admiration, respect, gratitude and laughter. Thanks be to God! Memorials may be made to Williams Memorial Methodist Church, 4000 Moores Lane, Texarkana, Texas 75503, or the charity of the donor's choice. "The time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4: 6-7
