Mildred Sprague Gillis Burris passed away on August 24th at Good Shepherd Nursing and Rehab in Little Rock, AR, where she had resided for 5 years. Mildred was born on Aug. 17, 1923 to Lemuel and Isabel Sprague in Texarkana, AR, the youngest of 5 children. She graduated from Providence Academy in Texarkana. Mildred worked at North American Air Craft in California during WWII where she met her husband and the father of her 2 daughters, Norman Gillis. After her husband became ill they returned to Texarkana. Mildred worked for St Michael's Hospital for 36 years. After raising her daughters, Mildred met and married her second husband Dewey Burris. Upon retirement Mildred and Dewey moved to the Little Rock area to be near her daughters. Mildred was a lifelong Catholic originally a member of St Edwards Catholic Church in Texarkana, AR and later a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Charles Sprague of Texarkana and Orville Sprague of Lancaster, California and, sisters Carmelita Hughes and Bethella Engledowl of Texarkana and her husbands, Norman Gillis and Dewey Burris. She is survived by her daughters Yvonne Thompson and Linda Teer (Billy) of Little Rock and Granddaughters, Catherine Harris (Sam), Stephanie Stafford (Bryan) of Little Rock and Jennifer Baker (Allan) of Flower Mound Texas. She is also survived by 7 Great Grand Children and a number of nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law Alyne Sprague of Texarkana. A visitation followed by a Rosary officiated by Deacon David Fowler will be held at East Funeral Home, 602 Olive St Texarkana, TX on Monday August 27th at 6:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial Officiated by Father James West and Deacon David Fowler will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday August 28 at St. Edward Catholic Church Texarkana, AR. The family would like to offer their deepest thanks to the staff of Good Shepherd Nursing and Rehab in Little Rock, AR for the loving care they provided to Mildred for 5 years.
