DeKALB, Texas—Herbert Cowan, Jr., 90, of Simms, Texas, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, in a Shreveport, La., hospital. Mr. Cowan was born March 5, 1928, in DeKalb. He was a retired mechanic for Red River Army Depot, a member of the Dalby Springs Masonic Lodge, a member of First Baptist Church, Simms, and a World War II Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by on great-grandchild, Caiman Stroud. He was a retired mechanic for Red River Army Depot, a member of First Baptist Church in Simms, Texas and a member of the Dalby Springs Masonic Lodge. Herbert was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served in War World II. Survivors include his wife, Betty Cowan of Simms, Texas; two daughters, Debi Jones of Hooks, Texas, and Moni Bell of Texarkana, Texas; four grandchildren, Jason Cartwright, Alisha Culpepper, Casey Jones and Chelsea Stroud; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Tracy Wilkes officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home.
