HOPE, Ark.—Bernice Straughter, 103, of Hope died Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, in a local nursing home. Mrs. Straughter was born Nov. 5, 1914, in Fulton, Ark. She was a former member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and a member of Lonoke Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Straughter; and three children, John Earl, Dorothy Jean and Bernis. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, George and Alice of Hope; two daughters and one son-in-law, Joycene Knox of San Francisco and Lorene and James Goza; two brothers, Jonathan Nash and James Nash of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Hannah Moore and Althea Nash of Omaha; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 39 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lonoke Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Scott's Memorial Gardens, Perrytown, Ark., under direction of Hicks Funeral Home. The body may be viewed 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday with visitation 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
