NEW BOSTON, Texas—William J. Meads, 90, of New Boston died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, in a local nursing home. Mr. Meads was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Oak Park, Ill. He was retired from Red River Army Depot, New Boston Independent School District and the Army Reserves. He was past president of Lions Club, a former New Boston City Councilman, a Scout Leader and a World War II Navy veteran.. He also was a member of Texas Retired Teachers Association and St. Mary's Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Elthie Cade Meads of New Boston; two daughters, Alethia Meads White of Texarkana and Rebecca Meads of Tyler, Texas; three sons, Byron Meads, Timothy Meads and Anthony Meads of Tyler; two brothers, Paul Mead of Midlothian, Texas, and Gerald Mead of Virginia; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 10 a.m. today at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Winnsboro, Texas, with the Rev. Ron Demski officiating. Burial will be in Rock Hill Cemetery, Quitman, Texas, under direction of Bates-Rolf Funeral Home. Online registration is at batesrolffuneralhome.com.
