Janet Summerlin Crain passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on her 88th birthday on January 24, 2018 surrounded by warmth, comfort and love. Janet was born in Bear Creek, Texas, on January 24, 1930. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Crain, one son-in-law Pete Hillin: her parents, Jessie Neal and Irwin Summerlin, one brother, Wayne Summerlin, one sister, Peggy Low. She lived in Bear Creek until the age of eight when she moved to Shreveport where she attended school and later served as editor of the Fair Park High School yearbook, the "Sequoyah'. She graduated at the age of sixteen and attended East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. In June of 1946 she met a handsome sailor, J. D. Crain at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Shreveport. In 1948 they began their 62 years of marriage. J.D's job with the railroad took them to Big Sandy where they were blessed with five wonderful children. In 1965 they moved to Wake Village where Janet worked at Red River Army Depot until her retirement in 1988. Following their retirement she and J. D. travelled to Colorado, California, Tennessee, Galveston, Florida, and Mexico. They especially loved family coming and fishing trips to Lake Fork and Lake O' the Pines with children and grandchildren. Janet was known for her sweet smile and quick wit. She loved her Sunday School Ladies at Wake Village Baptist Church. One of her favorite things was having all her adult children return home for a "slumber party" where they laughed and played late into the night. The children will always cherish these times. She is survived by her children Danneal Smith and husband, John of Longview, Texas; Carol Kravec of Texarkana, Texas; Sheila Fields and her husband, Jerry of Bryan, Texas; Barry Crain and wife, Diane of Texarkana, Texas; Lisa Hillin of Longview, Texas; grandchildren and their spouses: Michael Smith and wife, Erin of Longview, Texas; Brady Smith and Mandie Fuller of Longview, Texas; Susan Joiner and husband, Clarence of Big Sandy, Texas; Carrie Lentz and husband, Bobby of Katy, Texas; Angie Garrett and husband David of College Station, Texas; Amanda Nall and husband Craig of McKinney, Texas; Jonathan Crain of Wake Village, Texas; Jordan Hess and husband Justin of Denton, Texas; her great grandchildren; Layla, Trent, Marissa Smith, Cortland Tijernia , Prescott, Patty, Barret and Cooper Lentz; Matthew and Mason Nall , Jackson and James Garrett, Eli Hess; one brother-in-law: Jay Crain and wife Carolyn of West Monroe, Louisiana and step sisters: Evelyn Speed of Shreveport, and Margie Elliott of Haughton, Louisiana and a number of other relatives. Visitation will be 12:00 noon on Friday, January 26, followed by services at 1:00 P. M. Friday at Chapelwood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Neathery officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 P. M.
