J. Wilson Hood

J. Wilson Hood was born June 29, 1933, at Nida, OK, on the outskirts of Milburn, OK, the only son of Nina Monteen Johnson Hood and Woodrow Wilson Hood. After graduating from Velma-Alma High School in Velma, OK, he attended Murray Junior College in Tishomingo, OK. After serving in the United States Army, he went to Oklahoma A&M (O.S.U.), where he graduated with a degree in Dairy Manufacturing. In 1967, he moved to Texarkana, TX, to help with the expansion of Wadley Hospital. He then became the Director of Nutritional Services and retired after 26 years. He became employed with Texarkana Funeral Home and worked there for many years. His dedication to the service of others continued throughout the years. He was a lifetime member of the N.R.A., T.S.R.A. and Border Lodge 672. He served as Past President of Oaklawn Rotary Club and twice at Paul Harris Fellows. He helped start the International Rotary Club of Texarkana and served as an officer in the Sunrise Rotary Club. In 2007, he received a certificate of award from the Daughters of the Confederacy as a descendant of the Confederate soldier's lineage. Wilson's love of outdoor activities led him to years of fishing, golf, and horses, having shared with friends trail rides and cattle round-up in the Big Ben State Park and Davis Mountains. He was a member of Williams Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees through the years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nina Montee Hood and Woodrow Wilson Hood. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Dorothy; son, Larkin Wilson Hood and Kristine Hatley; three grandchildren, Lucia Nerio and husband, Rudy, Landon Murray Hood, and Lena Monteen Hood; two step-children, Derrick Watson and wife, Debbie, and Kim Watson Rodgers; three step-grandchildren, Lauren Rodgers Cunningham and husband, Cody, Brandon Rodgers, and Tori Hudnall and husband, Mason, all of Texarkana. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 P.M. Friday, February 2, 2018, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas Blvd. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Woodlawn Cemetery with Dr. Brad Morgan and Rev. Dale Vickers officiating.
