Virginia Turner Brooks, age 97, of Atlanta, Texas went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 28, 2018 in a Texarkana, Texas hospital. Virginia was born December 9, 1920 in Temple, Texas to Percy and Mary Elizabeth Turner. She attended Hockaday Junior College and graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York. She was the Owner of the Atlanta Times Newspaper; a member of First United Methodist Church, Atlanta and worked for the B.B.C. during World War II. She was also a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, the Atlanta Garden Club, The Hat and Glove Society, Board of Trustees at Saint James Day School, and a Board member of the Original Atlanta Public Library. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jesse M. Brooks; son, Jesse Miles Brooks, II; and her parents. She is survived by her son, Charles Brooks and wife Allyson of Atlanta, Texas; four grandchildren, Virginia Brooks Quinones and husband Andres, Charles Brooks, Jr., Henry Turner Brooks, John Miles Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Ginny Rose Quinones, Grayson Hernandez; nephew, Thomas McDonald and wife Debbie of Washington, D.C.; niece, Kathleen Verschoyle and husband James of Atlanta, Texas; great-nephews, Matthew McDonald of Nashville, Tennessee, Brooks Verschoyle and wife Kaci of Dallas, Texas, James Brooks and wife Cheryl of Atlanta, Texas; great-nieces, Jamie Gayle McDonald of Seattle, Washington, Becky Armstrong and husband Charles of Dallas, Texas, Victoria Daugherty and husband Boomer of Austin, Texas; special friends, Elaine Griffin and husband Lesley of Atlanta, Texas, and Debbie Kirby of Atlanta, Texas; and a number of other relatives. Private graveside services will be held at Pine Crest Cemetery under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service, with Bro. Jacob Smith officiating.
