VERNON SMITH

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas—Vernon "Drag" Smith, 82, of Daingerfield, Texas, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, in Mount Pleasant. Mr. Smith was born Aug. 28, 1935. He was formerly employed with Alcon Laboratories and attended Greater St. James Church, Fort Worth, Texas, and Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Daingerfield, Texas. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Yolanda and Jack Richard Tyson of Fort Worth; two stepdaughters, Tracie King and Dovie Tyson of Fort Worth; three siblings and one spouse, Melverine Barkwell and Jimmie and Patricia Smith of Fort Worth and Annette James of Daingerfield; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church with Bishop C.D. Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Reynolds Cemetery under direction of J.C. White Funeral Home.
