FELICIA DORETHA SMITH

On July 25, 2018, Felicia Doretha Smith made her transition to her new heavenly life surrounded by her family. This world was blessed with the presence of Felicia Doretha Smith (Howell) on May 8, 1946 in Bradley, Arkansas to the late Alexander Howell and the late Marietta Jackson (Nelson). She was a faithful member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas where she enjoyed being the church announcer and leading many church activities for the youth. Felicia was a 1962 graduate of Kiblah High School in Kiblah, Arkansas. She went on to attend Arkansas AM&N College in Pine Bluff, AR where she received her Bachelor's degree. Years later, she obtained a Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from East Texas State University in Texarkana, TX. On Christmas Eve, 1966, she married her hometown college sweetheart and loving husband of 51 years, Huey Samuel Smith. To this loving companionship were born three children; Letitia, Amecia and Brandon. After returning from Marquette, Michigan where she worked in the Job Corps, Felicia began her teaching career in the Texarkana, Arkansas School District where she taught Civics and served the public-school community until her retirement in 2010. She truly enjoyed serving and teaching her students during her 40-year tenure. After retirement, Felicia decided to continue her dedication to education by working at Southwest Arkansas Community Corrections Center to assist residents in passing GED exams. Felicia was active, fun-loving, sociable, ethical and took great pleasure in loving her husband, family, friends, community and providing her time with various social and service organizations. Her motto to those who knew her and loved her was "if you know better, you must do better". Mrs. Felicia Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Marietta Jackson and Alexander Howell and daughter, Letitia Andersson. She leaves to cherish her memory; her husband of 51 years, Huey Smith; daughter, Amecia Higgs (Marcus) of League City, TX; son, Brandon Smith of Texarkana, TX; brother, Thermon Nelson of Dallas, TX; son-in-law, Michael Andersson of League City, TX; five grandchildren, Michelle Andersson of Phoenix, AZ, Michael Andersson, Maya Andersson, Morgan Higgs and Marianna Higgs all of League City, TX, one great-grandchild, Brandon Andersson; devoted family friend Patricia Cornelius and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and friends. A Home Going Celebration Service will be held Wednesday, August 1, 2018, 12 Noon at the Mount Grove Baptist Church Dr. Kenneth Reid, Sr. Officiating; Rev. Darnell Johnson Eulogist. Visitation 10 a.m. to 12 noon prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Blanton Cemetery, Kiblah Arkansas. Services Entrusted to Lyles Funeral Home, Inc.
