JO ANN DURHAM

Jo Ann Fanning Durham passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. 10 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2018, at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. Visitation: 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Memorials: First Street Mission Fund at First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth. Jo Ann was born in Sulphur Springs to Judge William Jeffress Fanning and Merle Jo Barrett Fanning. She lived a full life with family, friends and her passion as an artist. First introduced to and taught art at age 5 by her grandmother, Callie Elizabeth Fanning, she continued for seven more decades with achievements locally, nationally and internationally. With a degree in art from Texas A&M Commerce, she is listed in the Who's Who in American Art, awarded an Honorary Doctorate in the Arts from the International Academy for Arts in Belgium and has exhibited works on three continents, including the Grand Palais in the Salon D'Automme, Society in Paris, France. There are permanent collections at the Fort Worth Public Library, the Woman's Club of Fort Worth, Texas A&M-Tarleton and Texas A&M-Commerce. She enjoyed her many friends with her memberships in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the American Revolution, Woman's Club Art Department, Cadmean Club, Friday Lecture Club, National League of American Pen Women, Gamma Phi Beta, International Society of Experimental Artists, Society of Watercolor Artists, Southwest Watercolor Society, National Museum for Women in the Arts in Washington D.C. and the Salmagundi Club in New York, among others. She served in several key leadership positions over the year for many of these organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William E. Durham, son, John Lee Durham, and special friend, H.T. Priddy. Son, William F. Durham and wife, Charlotte Durham; sister, Jane F. Sullivan; brother, Dr. William J. Fanning and wife, Robyn; grandchildren, Johnathan Durham and Lauren Bostwick; and niece, Ellie Fanning.
