James Edward Day

James Edward Day, age 82, passed away after a long illness on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at a local Hospice facility. He was born November 17, 1935, in New Boston, TX, to Dewey and Lena Day. He was a 1952 graduate of New Boston High School and attended Texarkana College. He retired from International Paper Company after 34 years. Initially he was Supervisor of Data Processing, then later Manager of Purchasing and Stores. He was an avid crappie fisherman and kept the family and many friends well stocked with fish fillets. Later in life he fulfilled a dream and bought a Harley Davidson Motorcycle and enjoyed riding, especially the trips he and his son Michael made together. He had a heart full of love for his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was a Methodist. Survivors include his devoted wife of more than 42 years, Linda Tiffin Day, three sons and two daughters in law: Richard Day and fiance AudreyMcKeehanofNew Boston, TX, Michael and DeLana Day of Rosharon, TX, and Tim and Kelly Day of Texarkana, TX; one daughter, Tammie Gross of Grapevine, TX. He is survived by one sister, Fran Pittman of Texarkana, TX. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Chris Day of Marshall, TX, Courtney Cochran of Texarkana, TX, Clifton English of New Boston, TX, Josh Gross of Ft. Worth, TX, Laken Day of Dickinson, TX, Santana Day of Danbury, TX, Jordan Day and Matt Day, both of Texarkana, TX. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Isaac Day, Journey Day, Tyler Head, McKenzie Head, Collin Cochran, Rayley English, Gage English, Easton English and Savannah Bornscheuer. He is also survived by a number of other relatives and many friends. Cremation is under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home. A family graveside service for burial of the cremains will be held Saturday, March 24 at 3:00 pm at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens officiated by chaD Hughes. Visitation will be Saturday, March 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Chapelwood Funeral Home. No memorial service will be held according to Mr. Day's wishes.
