Shawn Lawrence Kelly, age 45, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018. He leaves his wife of 10 years, Roni Proter, and two sons, Baer and Kessler; parents, Sharon and Larry Kelly; sisters, Erin and Janet, and her husband, Vincent de Jesus; nieces: Annabelle and Summer de Jesus; his wife's parents, their daughter and her family. Shawn was born on October 3, 1972 in Fairfield, CT and grew up in Texarkana, TX. He attended Pleasant Grove High School and earned a Master in Professional Accounting and a Bachelor of Business Administration with High Honors from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. While in college, he enjoyed active membership in the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and Silver Spur Association. After graduation, Shawn moved to Nashville, TN as an investment banker for JC Bradford & C0., where he focused on private equity and mergers and acquisitions transactions. Upon returning to Texas in 1998, he continued his career in the investment industry with Austin Ventures, where he co-opened the firm's Dallas ofce. Shawn earned a Master of Business Administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and after graduating returned to Dallas to launch Teakwood Capital, a private equity rm focused on technology investing in and around Texas. Shawn was an active member of the Lone Star Chapter of the Young Presidents' Organization. He loved the outdoors, long hikes and working on his home and ranch to improve the life for those around him. Shawn most enjoyed spending time with Roni and his adventurous boys. He was full of life, always active sharing laughs with numerous friends and family. He is remembered by his family and countless close friends as a positive, caring son, husband, father, and friend. He was sunshine and happiness and brought great joy into our lives. He will live in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a newly established educational fund for Shawn and Roni's children. If desired, checks may be sent (and made payable) to Westwood Trust at 200 Crescent Court, Suite 1200, Dallas, TX 75201, with a direction to add the contribution to the Kelly educational funds.
