Anne Harris Benbow, age 85, of Texarkana, Texas passed away on Monday April 30, 2018 surrounded by her family. Anne was born November 23, 1932 in Texarkana, TX. She was a member of Central Christian Church of Texarkana, TX and former member of First Christian Church, Longview, TX. Anne was a retired elementary school teacher and high school librarian with the Liberty-Eylau, Longview, and Kilgore school systems. Anne loved children and enjoyed being an educator, never hesitating to help a child that was in need. She was an artist and avid reader and especially loved to read books and draw for her children and grandchildren. She had a passion for genealogy. Family and family gatherings meant the world to her. She graduated from Texas High School where her many activities included Future Teachers of America and serving as Texas High's first student council president. She was an active member and officer of many organizations throughout her life including Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She received her Bachelor and Master of Science Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University where she was named Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and chosen to be a member of Kappa Pi national honorary Art Fraternity, Alpha Chi Nation Honor Fraternity, and the Fidele Club. She was also voted Stephen F. Austin Beauty and Runner up for Homecoming Queen, and Cheerleader for the Lumberjacks football team where she met her future husband Bobby. She also served as a member and leader for Girl Scouts of America, along with being a Cub Scout leader as well. Anne loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a lifetime member of the Christian Church involved in the Christian Women's Fellowship and was a long time choir member. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl Hayden Harris, Sr. and Jewell Irving Harris; and one brother Carl Hayden Harris, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Bobby J. Benbow; one daughter and son-in-law Carol and Billy Jack Scribner of Howe, TX; two sons and daughters-in-law Dr. Bryan and Sherry Benbow of Texarkana, TX; and Dr. Bryce and Tanya Benbow of Dallas, TX; one sister Dr. June Buhler of Tyler, TX; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends. The family would especially like to thank Ashley McCormack for all her loving care and assistance, along with Dierkson Hospice, and the personnel at the Retreat at Kenwood with special thanks to Kassidy Watson and Lori McGee that took special care of Anne; Nurse Ashley Northcut; and Randy Thomas who would sit for hours talking and singing with and to Anne. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Central Christian Church officiated by Rev. Wes Byas. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of East Funeral Home - Moores Lane. Family will receive friends Friday, May 4, 2018 at East Funeral Home-Moores Lane from 6 to 8 pm.
