ATLANTA, Texas—James A. Manning, 74, of Atlanta died Thursday, May 10, 2018, in a local nursing home. Mr. Manning was born May 6, 1944, in Houston. He was retired pastor of Open Door Baptist Church, Queen City, Texas, retired from Texarkana, Texas, Police Department and Bowie County Sheriff's Office and an Army National Guard veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dotty Manning; and one stepdaughter, Twyla Kilboy. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Jones Manning of Atlanta; one son and daughter-in-law, Lane and Wendy Manning of Atlanta; two daughters and one son-in-law, Karen Carpenter of Atlanta and Robin and Ronny Bennefield of Queen City, Texas; one stepson, Lynn Jones of Atlanta; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Richard and Deanna Manning of Paris, Texas, and Donna Sampler of Lewisville, Texas; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Open Door Baptist Church with Jackie Stanfield officiating under direction of Hanner Funeral Service.
