Gladys Irene Catterton Cupp was one of seven children of Nathan and Winifred Catterton. She was born April 10, 1918 and lived in or near Texarkana until 2004. Gladys graduated from Texas High School in 1934, attended Texarkana Junior College for two years, graduated from Texas Wesleyan College in 1938, then began her teaching career at Maud, Texas 1936-1944. She and John Cupp of Maud, Texas, were married June 22, 1941. Their only child, Linda Cupp was born in 1946, and they moved to Texarkana, Arkansas in 1948. Gladys taught at Jefferson Ave. Junior High, Liberty Eylau, Texas High School, and Texarkana Community College between 1948 and the early 1980's. She and John worshipped at First United Methodist Church, Arkansas for almost 20 years, then became active members at St. James Episcopal Church until John's death in 1976 and her move to Mesquite, Texas for health reasons in 2004, where she died on May 18, 2018. After her retirement she was very busy with volunteer work in the Texarkana area and traveling all over the world. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents and husband, her sisters, Agnes Catterton and Helen Grantz, and brothers, Max, Conn, Harold, and David Earl Catterton. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Billy Fornero; grandchildren, John, Scott and Bryan Fornero and Susan Wilson; great-grandchildren, Parker Blackman, Bexar Wilson, and Meagan, Michael, Kaitlyn, Noah, Brandon, Sophia, Rachel and Aiden Fornero; several nieces, nephews and friends. Her family and friends celebrate the witness of her life. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2018 with Father Doug Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
